Next Hotrock will be on Sunday 30 May 2010 – LAKE ROSS (Ross Dam), Kelso, Townsville

The HOTRock8 is an off-road endurance mountain bike race for riders of all ages and skill levels.

Enter in a relay team of 2 or 4 or in the solo (nutter) category.

The aim is to complete as many laps as you can of the 10 – 12km course in the 8 hours.

This is all off-road following some four wheel drive tracks and purpose built single track with some great views of the lake. Winners are those who complete the most laps in the 8 hours. You can have fun by challenging yourself or your team to do as many laps as you can, have a bit of a break, a bite to eat, and even have a nap! This is a chance to get out there as hard and fast as you want or to be part of a team for a bit of in-house rivalry or just a have great day riding and socialising.

The event village is located in Ross Park at the end of River Way Drive, 25k from Townsville’s city centre.

At the Willows Shopping Centre, Thuringowa, turn into Riverway Drive (a.k.a. Upper Ross River Rd) and follow the road all the way (with the river on your left) to Ross Dam.

Ross Park is at the dam wall.  Follow the signs around to your right to enter the event site.

The Course is not open for riding other than at designated practice or on race day.

There will be Rockwheelers club rides leading up to the event go to the web site for more info.

Riding at the venue at other times may cost you a fine.

What to expect

Just because it is 8 hours long doesn’t mean that everyone has to ride for the full 8 hours!

For the majority of the participants their team rides as a relay team, with one “active” rider at a time on the track. The rest of the time the team sits back in the shade comparing notes on the track and their laps, have something to eat and drink then goes for it again when the “active” rider hits the transition area to take a break. Solo riders can do the same – this is your own challenge – attack it as you will!
